Dead Island and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine have just released and are both on sale at Amazon.
Both of these games use Steamworks so they will require Steam.
- Dead Island
- Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine = I’ve yet to play this but there’s a demo on Steam. I hear it’s really fun.
I actually pre-ordered Dead Island on GMG and I played about 1.5 hours tonight. Some people reported issues with bugginess but I’ve been having fun with the game. No major issues for me.
Here’s my first impression so far:
I’m having fun with it. Definitely a different feel from L4D2. Bashing zombies is very gratifying. The menus seem to have a different sensitivity option from in game for some reason. They’re really slow. Not that great. So far it’s been a lot of fetch missions. Reminds me of borderlands in some respects. Weapons seem to disintegrate a little too fast. But it could be because I’m using level 1/2 items. I’m using the girl that uses pointed weapons and her rage skill is amazing. Throwing the weapon and getting a cool beheading kill is seriously bad ass.
There’s a lot of suitcases and stuff to go through and it takes a while but they’re all optional. I usually end up doing it to find new weapons or parts that I can use to craft that ripper thing. Jumping and stuff does feel a little floaty to me. FOV seems a little narrow also but a lot of games of late have had a narrow fov. I prefer 90 personally.
Driving the truck is pretty cool. It handles reasonably well. Fun to run over zombies. I’m not sure if there’s an in-game chat option but it would make co-op more enjoyable. No one really text types.
I didn’t know it when I pre-ordered it but there’s a crafting system and a leveling system like Borderlands in the game. You get blueprints and you can craft new weapons it appears. It also looks like I have access to the Steam exclusive Ripper blueprint although I got it from GMG… The leveling system seems to have the 3 skill trees and you unlock new skills as you go down the tree.
The save system is not the greatest. I didn’t really pay too much attention to it though.
I can see myself putting in a decent amount of hours into this. What about the other pre-order people. You guys liking it so far?
